The Regional Divide

It is the most common mistake new importers make. They order a container of 2cm slabs for New York, and no fabricator will touch it.

3cm (30mm) - The East Coast Standard

Where: NY, Florida, Texas, Midwest.
Why: It is thick enough to be installed directly on cabinets without a plywood sub-top. It feels luxurious and solid.
Cost: Higher material cost, but lower installation cost.

2cm (20mm) - The West Coast Way

Where: California, Oregon, Arizona.
Why: Historically used with a plywood sub-top and a "laminated edge" (gluing a strip to make the edge look 4cm thick).
Cost: Cheaper per slab, allows more slabs per container (approx 75 vs 55 for 3cm).

The Ruvello Rule

Unless you have a specific project, always check your local fabrication norms before ordering.
