The Gold Standard of Black

If you ask an architect for "Black Granite," they mean Absolute Black. Quarried in the Warangal and Khammam districts of India, this stone is famous for its dense, uniform, pitch-black structure. It is the Little Black Dress of the stone world—it goes with everything.

1. The Geology

Absolute Black is a gabbro (not technically granite, but sold as such). It contains no quartz, which means it doesn't have the "crystal" look. It is composed of Plagioclase and Pyroxene.
Density: It is incredibly dense. It has a water absorption rate of less than 0.1%. This makes it naturally stain-proof and frost-proof.

2. Grading: Premium vs. Commercial

Premium (Monument Grade):
The background is jet black. The grain is super fine (like sugar). There are zero white lines or spots. This material is rare and expensive, primarily exported to Poland and Russia for headstones.
Standard (Countertop Grade):
Very dark black, but may have tiny "rice grain" specks visible upon close inspection. Perfect for kitchens.
Commercial (Project Grade):
May have a slight greyish tint or visible white lines. Used for large flooring projects, airports, or exterior cladding where absolute perfection isn't required.

3. The "Fake" Black Warning

Because Premium Black is expensive, some unethical factories take grey granite and dye it with oil or epoxy.
The Test: Rub the surface with a cloth soaked in Acetone (nail polish remover). If the cloth turns black, it's a fake. Real stone doesn't shed color.
The Acid Test: Drop muriatic acid on it. If it fizzes, it's likely a dyed limestone, not granite.

4. Finishes

Polished: A mirror finish. Shows dust but looks regal.
Honed: A matte charcoal look. Very trendy but shows oil fingerprints.
Leathered: A textured finish. The best of both worlds—hides dust and fingerprints while looking modern.

At Ruvello, we source directly from the Warangal quarries, ensuring you get undyed, authentic Absolute Black.
