50 Shades of Black
To a layman, black is black. To a stone expert, the depth of the blackness determines the price. A slight grey tint can drop the value by 40%.
The Price Hierarchy
- Tier 1 (Premium): Absolute Black (Warangal). This is the gold standard. Pitch black, super fine grain, zero white spots. Used for high-end monuments and luxury hotel lobbies.
- Tier 2 (Mid-Range): Black Galaxy. The price depends on the size of the gold specks. Large, bright copper specks command a higher price than small, dull ones.
- Tier 3 (Economy): Rajasthan Black (Ash Black). This stone has a slight blue/grey tint and often features thin white crystal lines. It is excellent for large commercial flooring where absolute darkness isn't critical.
- Tier 4 (Budget): Black Pearl. Not a true black, but a dark grey/black with silver metallic flakes. It is the most affordable 'dark' stone on the market.
