The Panic Moment

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock. It is essentially cemented sand. This means it is incredibly porous. When engine oil hits Kandla Grey paving, it doesn't just sit on top; it dives deep into the capillaries of the stone.

What NOT to Do

Do not hit it with a pressure washer immediately. The water pressure will push the oil deeper into the stone and spread it over a wider area, turning a small spot into a large stain.

The Removal Protocol

  1. Blotting (The Golden Hour): If the spill is fresh, cover it immediately with something absorbent. Cat litter, sawdust, or even dry sand. Grind it in with your boot. Leave it for 24 hours. This wicks up the surface oil.
  2. Chemical Breakdown: Sweep away the litter. You will likely still see a dark shadow. Now you need an emulsifier. Use a dedicated "Driveway Oil Remover" or a heavy-duty degreaser. Scrub it in with a stiff brush. The chemical breaks the oil chains, allowing them to mix with water.
  3. Hot Water Rinse: Now you can wash. Hot water works best to lift the emulsified oil.

Prevention: If you park cars on sandstone, sealing the driveway with a breathable impregnating sealer is mandatory. It buys you time to wipe up spills before they penetrate.
