DIY Granite Cutting

Granite is Mohs 7 hard. A wood saw will just spark and burn. You need diamonds.

The Toolkit

  • Angle Grinder: With a continuous rim Diamond Blade (Dry or Wet).
  • Water: Cutting dry creates dangerous silica dust. Have a helper spray water on the cut continuously.
  • Mask: N95 is mandatory. Silica dust causes lung damage.

For straight cuts on thin slabs like P White, it's doable. For sink cutouts or thick slabs, hire a pro with a bridge saw.
