Stone as Art
A bookmatched wall is the pinnacle of stone craftsmanship. It involves taking two adjacent slabs from a block and polishing them on opposite sides (like opening a book). The veins mirror each other to create Rorschach-like patterns: butterflies, hearts, or diamonds.
Choosing the Stone
You cannot bookmatch a uniform stone. You need movement.
The Best Candidates: Rainforest Green (looks like a jungle map), Viscon White (black and white waves), and Mercury Black.
The Install: This is millimeter-perfect work. The installer must align the veins across the seam perfectly. The lighting must be positioned to highlight the symmetry. It transforms a wall into a masterpiece.
