The Identity Crisis

Stone yards label Fantasy Brown as everything from "Soft Quartzite" to "Hard Marble." Geologically, it is a Dolomite.

What is Dolomite?

It is a sedimentary rock, similar to limestone but with magnesium added.
Hardness: Harder than marble (Mohs 4-5) but softer than granite (Mohs 6-7). It won't scratch as easily as Carrara, but a steel knife can still mark it.
Acid Sensitivity: It reacts with acids (etching) but much slower than marble. You have time to wipe up a lemon spill.

Why it Rules the Kitchen

It occupies the "Goldilocks Zone." It has the flowing, soft, wavy veins of a $100/sqft marble, but the durability and price point of a mid-range granite. It is the perfect compromise for homeowners who want the "look" without the fragility. We recommend a leathered finish to hide any future etching or scratches.
