The Illusion of Thickness
Modern luxury demands thick islands (60mm+). But buying a 6cm solid slab is impossible. Here is how fabricators fake it.
1. Laminated Edge (Standard)
Technique: A 2cm strip is glued under the edge of the 2cm slab.
Look: You can see a faint seam line where the pieces join.
Cost: Affordable. Standard in California.
2. Mitered Edge (Luxury)
Technique: The slab edge and the drop piece are both cut at 45 degrees. They join to form a seamless 90-degree corner.
Look: The vein "flows" over the edge. It looks like a solid block of stone.
Cost: Expensive. Requires precision cutting. Essential for Waterfall Islands.
Pro Tip for Importers
If your market does Mitered Edges, ensure you buy Bookmatched slabs so the veins align perfectly at the cut.
