Natural vs. Broken

Clients often panic when they see a line in the stone. Is it a crack? Probably not.

Fissure (Natural)

A separation between crystals that happened millions of years ago. It is filled with other minerals.
Test: Run your fingernail over it. If it feels smooth and your nail doesn't catch, it's a fissure. It is structurally sound and part of the stone's beauty.

Crack (Defect)

A break caused by handling or stress.
Test: Your fingernail will 'catch' or jump when passing over it. It reflects light differently. Cracks can spread; fissures won't. Ruvello guarantees no structural cracks in our exports.
