The Backyard Challenge
Outdoor kitchens face two enemies that indoor kitchens don't: UV Radiation and Extreme Temperature Swings (from freezing winter to blazing BBQ heat).
Why Man-Made Fails
Quartz: The resin binder yellows under UV light. It can also warp or crack if a hot grill is built directly into it.
Corian/Acrylic: Not UV stable. Will chalk and fade.
Why Granite Wins
Granite like Tan Brown is 100% mineral. It was formed in fire.
Heat: You can build a pizza oven directly on top of it.
Sun: It will not fade.
Freeze/Thaw: Low porosity means it won't crack in winter.
Design Tip: Choose a Leathered finish. A high-gloss polish can act like a mirror in the sun, blinding you while you cook. Leathered diffuses the glare.
