The Budget Hierarchy

Fabricators and builders often classify granite into "Levels" or "Groups." Understanding this system helps you budget for your renovation or commercial project.

Level 1: Entry Level / Commercial (The Workhorses)

Price Range: $35 - $45 per sq ft (Installed).
Characteristics: Consistent, uniform patterns. Usually speckled (salt and pepper). Available in massive quantities.
Examples: Platinum White, Rosy Pink, Steel Grey (Commercial Grade), Black Pearl.
Best For: Rental properties, large commercial flooring, budget flips.

Level 2: Mid-Range (The Standards)

Price Range: $45 - $60 per sq ft (Installed).
Characteristics: More movement, richer colors, or harder geology. Some flow in the pattern.
Examples: Tan Brown, Colonial White, Crystal Yellow, Standard Black Galaxy.
Best For: Family homes, office reception desks, durable kitchen counters.

Level 3: Premium / High-End (The Statements)

Price Range: $60 - $85 per sq ft (Installed).
Characteristics: Deep, rare colors. Unique veining. High-gloss polish.
Examples: Absolute Black (Premium), Premium Black Galaxy (Gold specks), River White (High flow).
Best For: Luxury kitchens, master bathrooms.

Level 4 & 5: Exotic (The Art)

Price Range: $90+ per sq ft.
Characteristics: Massive waves, rare minerals (blue/gold), bookmatched slabs. Looks like art.
Examples: Viscon White (Bookmatched), Blue Dunes, Monte Cristo, Alaska Gold.
Why the Cost? These stones are fragile during quarrying (high waste), hard to process (destroy diamond blades), and rare in nature.

FAQ: Does Price = Durability?

No. A Level 1 stone like Steel Grey is actually harder and more durable than a Level 5 Exotic like Alaska Gold (which might have fissures). You pay for rarity and beauty, not necessarily strength.
