The Science of Safety

Rumors often circulate that granite countertops emit dangerous levels of Radon gas. Extensive testing by the EPA and the Marble Institute of America has shown this is virtually impossible in typical home volumes.

The Reality

Granite is a rock, and all rocks emit trace radiation. However, the levels from a countertop are often less than what you get from the soil in your own backyard or from a concrete driveway. Ruvello granites, including Alaska White and other exotics, are tested and certified safe for indoor residential use. The ventilation in a normal home is more than enough to dissipate any trace emissions.
