The Edge of Design

When ordering granite treads for a staircase, the edge profile dictates both the aesthetic and the safety.

Full Bullnose (The Classic)

A fully rounded semi-circle edge.
Pros: It is the safest edge. If you trip and hit your shin, the curve softens the blow. It is extremely chip-resistant because there are no sharp corners.
Cons: Can look traditional or dated in a hyper-modern home. Water tends to wrap around the curve and drip down the riser face.

Pencil Round / Eased Edge (The Modern)

A square edge with the sharpness taken off (2mm radius).
Pros: Crisp, clean, architectural lines. Perfect for modern office blocks using Platinum White. Water drips straight off, keeping the riser clean.
Cons: More prone to chipping if hit by a heavy object. Sharp corners can cause injury during a fall.

Verdict: Use Bullnose for homes with kids. Use Pencil Edge for commercial offices.
