The Global Divide

When ordering granite slabs, thickness dictates everything from shipping cost to installation method.

3cm (1 1/4 inch) - The American Standard

3cm slabs are strong enough to be installed directly on cabinets without a plywood sub-top. They offer a luxurious, thick edge profile without lamination. However, they are heavy—you can fit fewer slabs in a container (approx. 280-300 sqm).

2cm (3/4 inch) - The International Standard

Standard in Europe, India, and the Middle East. 2cm slabs usually require a plywood sub-base for support. The advantage? They are lighter and cheaper to ship (you can fit approx. 400-450 sqm in a container). For West Coast USA fabricators who do laminated edges, 2cm is often the more profitable choice.
