The Hardness Reality

Ceramic tile has a glazed surface. Once that glaze is scratched, the ugly clay body underneath shows. You can't fix it.

Granite: Platinum White granite is solid stone all the way through. A steel knife blade is softer than granite (Mohs 5.5 vs 7). If you drag a knife on granite, the metal rubs off on the stone (looking like a scratch), but wipe it away, and the stone is unharmed. It is virtually scratch-proof for daily life.
