Plastic vs. Stone

Corian is acrylic (plastic). Granite is rock.

Heat

Corian: Melts or scorches at high temps. You cannot put a hot pan on it.
Granite: Steel Grey was formed in magma. A hot pan does nothing.

Scratches

Corian: Scratches easily (it's soft plastic), but can be sanded out.
Granite: Difficult to scratch. If you cut on it, you will dull your knife, not the stone.

Verdict: Corian is good for seamless medical counters. Granite is better for kitchens.
