The Acid Rain Test

In polluted city centers, rain is slightly acidic. Limestone (Calcium Carbonate) reacts with acid and slowly dissolves or pits over decades. Granite (Silica) is chemically inert.

Longevity

For a public plaza that needs to look the same in 50 years, Granite is the only choice. Silver Grey Granite is the standard for European city squares because it resists wear, acid rain, and heavy foot traffic better than any limestone or sandstone.
