The Price of Earth

When budgeting for a project, clients are often confused. Why is Indian Statuario Marble cheaper than some granites, while Italian Statuario is 5x the price? The price of natural stone isn't just about looks; it's about geology and logistics.

Factor 1: Scarcity (Supply & Demand)

Granite: Stones like Platinum White are abundant. The mountain is huge, and the stone is uniform. Supply is high, so price is low ($35-$45/sqft installed).
Exotic Granite: Stones like Blue Dunes come from specific, smaller veins in the quarry. Supply is limited, pushing prices to $70+/sqft.
Marble: White marble is common. But pure white marble with perfect grey veins is rare. You pay for the purity of the background.

Factor 2: Quarrying Difficulty

Granite: It is hard. It breaks diamond wires. It takes longer to cut than marble. However, blocks are usually solid.
Marble: It is soft but often fragile (fissures). A quarry might have to discard 60% of the rock to find sound blocks. This high "waste factor" is baked into the price of the finished slab.

Factor 3: Processing & Resin

Almost all premium stones are now vacuum resin-treated to strengthen them.
Standard Resin: Used on dark granites. Cheap.
Optical Grade Epoxy: Used on white quartzites and marbles to ensure it doesn't yellow. This resin is expensive, adding $5-$10 per sqft to the slab cost.

The Verdict

Entry Level: Indian Granite wins (Rosy Pink, P White).
Mid Range: A tie between Fantasy Brown (Marble) and Tan Brown (Granite).
High End: Exotic Quartzites and Italian Marbles are the most expensive.
