The Sun Bleach Effect

We see this mistake often: a beautiful white quartz countertop installed in an outdoor BBQ area. Six months later, it is yellow.

The Science

Quartz is 7% resin. UV rays from the sun chemically break down this resin, causing it to amber (turn yellow) and eventually crack. Granite is 100% mineral. It was formed in the earth's crust. Stones like Tan Brown or Absolute Black are completely UV stable. They will not fade, warp, or discolor even in the Arizona sun.
