The Titan Battle

Homeowners often confuse Quartz (man-made) with Quartzite (natural). True Quartzite is a metamorphic rock formed from sandstone under intense heat. It is harder than granite and looks like marble.

Hardness & Durability

Granite: Mohs 6-7. Hard, durable, but can have a speckled 'grainy' look. Absolute Black is the benchmark.

Quartzite: Mohs 7-8. It scratches glass! Stones like Taj Mahal offer the translucent, creamy look of marble but are virtually indestructible. They are impervious to lemon juice (etching) unlike marble.

The Price Factor

Quartzite is harder to cut and quarry, making it 30-50% more expensive than standard granite. However, for a 'marble look' that lasts forever, it is the best investment.
