The Aesthetic Shift
For decades, "Polished" (high gloss) was the only option. It reflects light and seals the pores. However, the modern trend is "Honed" (Matte) finishes.
Maintenance Differences
Polished: Closes the pores, making it highly stain-resistant. Easiest to clean.
Honed: The grinding stops before the shine appears. This leaves the pores slightly open. Critical Note: Honed granite *must* be sealed more frequently (every 6 months) compared to polished granite. Oil stains can be stubborn on honed surfaces.
Steel Grey looks spectacular when honed, turning into a modern industrial charcoal surface.
