Harvesting the Mountain

Granite mining is heavy engineering. We identify a vein of good stone, like Rosy Pink.

The Process

  1. Drilling: Pneumatic drills bore deep holes in a line.
  2. Wire Sawing: A diamond-studded wire is threaded through and run like a chainsaw, cutting the block free from the bedrock.
  3. Toppling: Using air bags or water pressure, the massive 20-ton block is gently tipped onto a bed of soil to prevent cracking.
