The Groutless Bathroom

The biggest trend in 2025 luxury bathrooms is cladding walls with floor-to-ceiling porcelain slabs (1600x3200mm). Stones like Statuario Platina create a seamless marble look without a single horizontal grout line. But installing a 6mm thin slab vertically is high-stakes.

The Substrate Rule

The wall must be perfectly flat. Drywall is usually not enough. We recommend Cement Board or a rendered brick wall.
Tolerance: The wall cannot deviate more than 2mm over 2 meters. If the wall has a belly (bump), the slab will crack when you push it.

The "Butter & Beat" Method

1. Directional Troweling: Apply adhesive to the wall AND the back of the slab. The trowel ridges must run parallel (vertical). Do not swirl the trowel! Swirls trap air pockets.
2. Handling: Use a suction cup frame to lift the slab. Never bend it.
3. Beating: Once the slab is on the wall, use a specialized rubber vibrating plate or a beating block. Start from the center and work air out towards the edges.
4. Leveling Clips: Use screw-based leveling clips at the seams to ensure the slabs are perfectly flush with each other (lippage control).

Cutting the Holes

For shower valves and pipes, never use a hammer drill. Use a diamond core bit. Crucial: Round the corners of any rectangular cutout (like for a niche). Sharp 90-degree internal corners are stress points where cracks start.
