Can I Install Stone Cladding on Drywall?

Weight Warning

Drywall (Gypsum board) can only hold about 5-7 lbs per sqft. 20mm Granite weighs 13 lbs/sqft. Do not glue granite directly to drywall. It will rip the paper off and fall.

The Solution

For interior feature walls using Rainforest Green or split-face stone:
1. Use Cement Backer Board screwed into studs.
2. Use flexible polymer-modified adhesive (thin-set).
3. For heavy slabs, use mechanical clips hidden in the joints.
