The #1 Mistake: Vinegar
Homeowners often think "natural" cleaners like vinegar and lemon are safe. Stop! These are acids. On marble (like Indian Statuario), acid dissolves the calcium, leaving dull white spots called "etches." On granite, frequent acid use will strip the sealer, leaving it vulnerable to oil stains.
The Golden Rules of Care
- Ph-Neutral Cleaners: Use mild dish soap and warm water. That's it.
- Sealing Schedule: Seal marble every 6-12 months. Seal granite every 2 years. Perform the "Water Drop Test"—if water soaks in and darkens the stone in under 5 minutes, it's time to reseal.
- Coasters: Always use them on marble. Granite is more forgiving, but why risk it?
