Water evaporates, but oil soaks in. If cooking oil sits on unsealed granite, it creates a dark shadow.

The Poultice Solution

You need to "pull" the oil back out. Here is the recipe:

  1. Mix Baking Soda with Acetone to form a paste.
  2. Spread it over the stain.
  3. Cover with plastic wrap and tape down.
  4. Let it sit for 24-48 hours.

As the acetone evaporates, it draws the oil into the baking soda. Works wonders on Ivory Brown and lighter stones.
