The Dark Spot
Oil is different from wine. It doesn't evaporate; it soaks in. A dark oil stain on Colonial White can look permanent. Regular cleaners can't reach it.
The Solution: Poultice
You need to reverse the wicking process.
1. The Mix: Create a paste using a solvent (Acetone or Mineral Spirits) and an absorbent (Baking Soda or Talc). Consistency of peanut butter.
2. The Application: Spread it 1/4 inch thick over the stain. Cover with plastic wrap. Tape the edges.
3. The Wait: Leave it for 24-48 hours. The solvent breaks down the oil. As it evaporates up through the paste, it pulls the oil with it into the baking soda.
4. The Reveal: Remove the dried powder. The stain should be gone. If a shadow remains, repeat.
