Surgical Extraction

Replacing one tile in a finished floor is high-risk. One slip and you chip the surrounding good tiles.

The Protocol

  1. Isolate: Use an oscillating multi-tool with a diamond grit blade to cut the grout out completely around the broken Platinum White tile. This disconnects it from the neighbors.
  2. Center Break: Drill holes in the center of the broken tile to weaken it. Use a hammer and chisel to break the center *first*, then work outwards carefully toward the edges.
  3. Scrape: You must remove 100% of the old hardened thin-set from the subfloor. It must be perfectly flat.
  4. Reset: Butter the back of the new tile (checking it is from the same batch for color match) and tap it level. Grout the next day.
