A Day in the Life: How Ruvello Selects Blocks at the Quarry

The Art of Selection

A polished slab is only as good as the raw block. Our team visits the quarries in Madurai (for white granites) and Ongole (for Black Galaxy) weekly.

The Inspection Checklist

• Water Spray: We spray the dusty rough block with water. This simulates polishing and reveals the true color and any hidden black spots (moles).
• Hammer Test: We hit the block with a sledgehammer. A 'dead' thud means there is an internal crack. A ringing sound means it is solid.
• Direction: We look for the 'flow' of the grain to ensure we can create bookmatched patterns later.

Only the top 30-40% of blocks meet the Ruvello export standard.
