The Global Stone Map
For a wholesaler in the USA or Europe, choosing the right country of origin is a strategic decision. Here is how the big three compare in 2025.
1. India (The Volume King)
Strength: Massive consistency. Incredible pricing on standard colors (Absolute Black, Steel Grey).
Tech: Factories now use the same Italian machinery (Breton/Pedrini) as Europe.
Geopolitics: Stable. No major trade war tariffs with USA/EU.
Best For: Commercial projects, monuments, standard kitchen colors.
2. Brazil (The Exotic Artist)
Strength: Unmatched beauty. The home of translucent Quartzites (Taj Mahal) and wild granites (Magma Gold).
Weakness: Softer stone. Many Brazilian "granites" are actually schists or fragile stones that require heavy resin treatment.
Price: Premium. Freight to Asia/Europe is expensive.
Best For: High-end luxury homes, statement islands.
3. China (The Processor)
Strength: Historically cheap labor and processing.
Weakness: Quarry Closures. Strict environmental laws have closed hundreds of quarries (G603, G654). Supply is erratic.
Tariffs: US anti-dumping duties (300%+) have killed the Chinese quartz/granite market for American buyers.
Best For: Domestic market or specific cheap grey landscaping items.
The Verdict
For consistent, hard, affordable stone, India is the undisputed leader. For exotic art, buy Brazil. China is no longer the export giant it once was.
